The dangers of pornography

Many men seem to have missed the Diocese of Scranton’s annual White Ribbon Campaign, which ran from October 26 to November 2.  It is designed to raise awareness of the increasing number of people struggling with compulsive and addictive sexual behaviors, and to offer opportunities for assistance.  Consider the following:

Ø The pornography industry is a $12 billion industry in the U.S. alone

Ø 12% of all websites contain pornographic material

Ø The average age of first internet exposure to pornography is 11-yrs-old

Ø 47% of Christians say pornography is a major problem in their home

Ø The largest consumers of online pornography are children ages 12-17

Ø Consumption of pornography by a spouse has shown to increase the risk of infidelity, separation and divorce, while also leading to a devaluation of child-rearing

With faith in the Father who created us, the Son who redeemed us, and the Holy Spirit who sustains us, let us now accept the challenge to protect our wives and children from the degradation of human sexuality and live lives of dignity.  If you or someone you love is struggling with an addition to pornography, you can contact the Office for Parish Life at 570-207-2213 for assistance.
