Take a breath with the ‘other lung’

Here’s a challenging 85-minute talk (followed by Q&A) by Metropolitan Jonah that could be titled “Spiritual Formation in Dispassion.”  Using Ephesians 4:11-16 and 1 Corinthians 2:13-16 as a jumping-off point, he teaches us how important it is to engage in a stillness that will help us to keep our focus on God, and increase our spiritual awareness.  This spiritual consciousness will unite us to the Father through Jesus in the Holy Spirit, then lead us through detachment, forgiveness of others, and repentance/conversion/transformation, bringing us a freedom from the disordered passions born of our selfishness so we are free to be fully surrendered to God, and free to be self-giving in love.

A memorable one-liner:

“We have to move from saying the Jesus Prayer into the prayer of Jesus.”

“Mercilessly persecute hypocrisy within yourself.”
