An indelible image

Today (August 17) is my father’s birthday.  He died about three years ago.  He was born in 1925 in Ashley and lived most of his life within a block of where he was born — aside from his time in the Navy during WWII.  Although he struggled with alcohol, he lived a life of faith in Christ.  Often, after working a double shift from 3:00 pm until 11:00 pm, and then 11:00 pm until 7:00 am, I would see him on his knees praying after retuning from work.  The more the years pass the more impressive that simple act seems to me.  The witness of a dad’s prayer and faith life cannot be over-estimated.

Gracious and most merciful Father, we thank you for the gift of Fr Leo’s dad to his family and to the Body of Christ. Through Jesus our Savior, we lift him up to you. If he is still being purified as a member of the Church Suffering, we offer our prayers and sacrifices this day on his behalf, that he would quickly be enveloped by your Fatherly embrace, and would come to enjoy the eternal rest of the Beatific Vision. Mary, Help of Christians, pray for him.
